Reading the day

Friday · Venus’s day
Favours the arts and music, romance and marriage, jewellery, clothing, and comforts.
Jyeshtha · Tikshna (sharp) star
The Moon’s star suits separations, stern measures, and intense discipline — not auspicious starts.
Bhadra (welfare) tithi
Good for all auspicious work — business, contracts, travel, learning, and construction.

A Panchang lookup requires only a city and date. If you add birth details, they are encrypted in transit and used only to calculate Tarabalam. We do not sell them, and you can delete saved birth details at any time.

What is the Panchang?

The Panchang is the classical Hindu almanac. Its name refers to the five limbs of the day. For the selected place, this page calculates them from the positions of the Sun and Moon at sunrise and shows auspicious and inauspicious time windows. It uses ephemeris calculations and classical lookup rules, not AI.

The five limbs, windows & Tarabalam

Panchang details

Vara: the weekday
The weekday and its planetary lord (e.g. Thursday is ruled by Jupiter), which colours the day’s overall tone.
Tithi: the lunar day
The lunar day, based on the angle between the Sun and Moon. Tithis fall into groups (Nanda, Bhadra, Jaya, Rikta, Purna); the Rikta group is classically avoided for new beginnings.
Nakshatra: the lunar mansion
The constellation occupied by the Moon. There are 27, each with a ruling planet and traditional character that shapes the day’s mood and suitable activities.
Yoga: the Sun–Moon combination
One of 27 combinations of the Sun and Moon’s positions; most are fine, a few are best avoided for important work.
Karana: the half-tithi
Half of a tithi. The Vishti (Bhadra) karana is the one classically set aside for inauspicious work.

Auspicious & inauspicious windows

Every day has distinct timing windows. Avoid Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal when beginning something new. Abhijit and Brahma Muhurta are brief auspicious periods. Choghadiya divides the day and night into eight slots each, marked good, neutral or best avoided, to help time everyday tasks.

Tarabalam and Chandrabalam: your personal day

Add your birth details to personalise the almanac. Tarabalam counts the day’s star from your birth star through nine Taras. Sampat, Sadhaka and others are favourable, while Vipat, Pratyari and Vadha suggest taking it easy. Chandrabalam reads the Moon’s position from your birth Moon to assess the day’s mental steadiness. Both are calculated by the engine without AI.
