Vaar Today
Vaar is the weekday and the second of the panchang’s five limbs. Tradition assigns a ruling planet to each day, whose nature is believed to influence the day’s character. In the panchang, a new day begins at sunrise rather than midnight.

The seven weekday lords
Each weekday has a planetary lord: the Sun rules Sunday, the Moon Monday, Mars Tuesday, Mercury Wednesday, Jupiter Thursday, Venus Friday and Saturn Saturday. The ruler gives the day its traditional character. Thursday (Jupiter), for example, favours learning and auspicious beginnings, while Saturday (Saturn) favours patient, sustained work. The table below lists all seven.
Disha Shool — the direction to avoid
Disha Shool is the cardinal direction traditionally avoided for travel on a given weekday. It is a caution rather than a strict prohibition, and customary remedies are available when travel in that direction cannot be avoided. The live panel above shows today’s Disha Shool.
