Rahu Kaal Today
Rahu Kaal is the day’s best-known inauspicious window, and tradition advises against using it to begin important work. Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal are two related windows. They do not affect work already under way; the caution applies only to new beginnings.

What to avoid — and what is fine
During these windows, avoid signing, buying, launching, setting out on an important journey or beginning a ceremony. Routine work and anything already in progress are unaffected because Rahu Kaal applies to beginnings. If the timing cannot be avoided, many people begin a minute or two earlier or choose an auspicious Choghadiya outside the window.
How the windows are found
The period from sunrise to sunset is divided into eight equal parts. Rahu, Yamaganda and Gulika each take one part, with their positions changing by weekday. Since the calculation uses the actual sunrise and sunset, the clock times vary by place and season. The times shown here apply to the date and location below.
FAQ
What is Rahu Kaal?
Rahu Kaal is a daily inauspicious window — one eighth of the daylight assigned to the shadow planet Rahu — during which the tradition advises against starting important work.
What should I avoid during Rahu Kaal?
New beginnings — signing, buying, launching, or setting out on an important trip. Work already in progress is not affected.
How is Rahu Kaal calculated?
The time from sunrise to sunset is split into eight equal parts; the part that falls to Rahu shifts by weekday, so the window changes day to day.
What are Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal?
Two more inauspicious daily windows, found the same way as Rahu Kaal. Gulika Kaal is sometimes considered the gentler of the three.
