Significance
The story teaches devotion to the divine over the fear of lesser gods, and gratitude to nature: the hill, the cattle, the land that sustains. Annakut, the “mountain of food”, gives thanks for plenty.
How Govardhan Puja is observed
A small hill of cow-dung or food is made and worshipped; temples pile up vast Annakut offerings of many dishes before the deity. Cattle are honoured and bathed.
Puja Muhurat
Govardhan Puja (Annakut) has two muhurtas while Pratipada prevails — a Pratahkal (morning) window and a Sayankal (evening) window.
