Amrit Siddhi Yoga — Is It On Today?
Amrit Siddhi — the one nakshatra each weekday pairs with to turn work to “nectar”.
Amrit Siddhi Yoga, meaning “accomplishment as nectar”, occurs when a weekday coincides with its traditionally paired nakshatra: Sunday with Hasta, Monday with Mrigashira, Tuesday with Ashwini, Wednesday with Anuradha, Thursday with Pushya, Friday with Revati and Saturday with Rohini. Work begun during the pairing is believed to take on the quality of amrita, the nectar of immortality.

The seven pairings
Each weekday has one paired star: Ravivara (Sunday) with Hasta; Somavara (Monday) with Mrigashira; Mangalavara (Tuesday) with Ashwini; Budhavara (Wednesday) with Anuradha; Guruvara (Thursday) with Pushya; Shukravara (Friday) with Revati; and Shanivara (Saturday) with Rohini. This one-to-one rule makes Amrit Siddhi rarer than Sarvartha Siddhi, occurring about twice a month on average. The Thursday pairing is also Guru Pushya Yoga.
What it favours
Amrit Siddhi is used for the same activities as a general muhurat: signing, buying, moving into a home, starting a venture, beginning study, undertaking a journey and rites of passage other than marriage. It strengthens a day that is already suitable; it does not make an unsuitable day suitable.
When the nectar turns to poison
Several texts state that these pairings become Vish Yoga (“poison”) rather than Amrit Siddhi on certain tithis. The most commonly cited are the 6th, 8th, 11th and 12th lunar days, along with Tuesday and Saturday pairings that coincide with Bhadra. For an important decision, check the day’s full panchang above and consult your family priest if needed.
How the window is worked out
The yoga lasts for the overlap between the Vedic day (sunrise to the next sunrise) and the paired nakshatra. If the qualifying star is active at sunrise, the window runs from sunrise until the star ends. If it begins later, the window runs from that moment until the next sunrise. Every time is derived from the Moon’s actual position using ephemeris arithmetic, with no AI.
FAQ
What is Amrit Siddhi Yoga?
It is the meeting of a weekday with the single nakshatra it is classically paired with — for example Thursday with Pushya, or Friday with Revati. Work begun in the window is held to turn to amrita, nectar.
What are the seven Amrit Siddhi pairings?
Sunday–Hasta, Monday–Mrigashira, Tuesday–Ashwini, Wednesday–Anuradha, Thursday–Pushya, Friday–Revati, Saturday–Rohini.
How is Amrit Siddhi different from Sarvartha Siddhi?
Sarvartha Siddhi admits several nakshatras per weekday, so it occurs several times a month; Amrit Siddhi admits exactly one, so it is rarer and regarded as the stronger of the two. Every Amrit Siddhi day is also a Sarvartha Siddhi day.
Can Amrit Siddhi Yoga be inauspicious?
Some texts hold that on certain lunar days the same pairing becomes Vish (poison) Yoga instead — commonly cited are the 6th, 8th, 11th and 12th tithis, and the Tuesday and Saturday pairings during a Bhadra. For a decision that matters, check the day’s full panchang and ask your priest.
