Griha Pravesh Muhurat — Auspicious Dates to Enter a New Home
Griha Pravesh marks the first entry into a new home, when a building begins to feel like a household. Tradition times the rite carefully because that first entry is understood to set the tone for family life there. Enter the home’s location and the dates you can consider, and the finder will rank the suitable days.
What the rules look for on a griha pravesh day
The Moon’s nakshatra is the first test. Fixed or gentle stars are preferred, including Rohini, Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. A Rikta tithi (the 4th, 9th or 14th) is penalised, while Amavasya and Bhadra are excluded outright. A benefic weekday improves the score. Many families also avoid Panchak and lunar months considered unsuitable for this rite; check the Panchak page to see whether your dates fall within one.

FAQ
Which nakshatras are best for Griha Pravesh?
The steady, nurturing stars: Rohini, Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati are the ones most commonly named. The finder uses the classical preferred set as its gate, so every day it returns has already passed that test.
Can Griha Pravesh be done in any month?
Traditionally, no. Magha, Phalguna, Vaishakha and Jyeshtha are among the lunar months most commonly favoured, while Ashadha to Kartika, covering the monsoon and Chaturmas period, is widely avoided. The finder ranks the dates you provide, but the choice of season is worth discussing with your family priest.
Is a Griha Pravesh muhurat needed for a rented home?
The rite is classically for a home you own or will live in long-term, and it is commonly performed for a first entry into a rented home too, in a simpler form. The timing rules are the same either way.
What if no auspicious date falls in my range?
The right nakshatra recurs only about once every 27 days, so a short range may contain none. Widen the range and candidates appear. The finder will never invent a day to fill an empty result.
