Bengali Calendar — Kartik 2026
The Bengali panjika, read from Kolkata — India’s easternmost metro, where the Sun rises well before the rest of the country on the same clock. Its months are solar, and Bengal always gives the Sankranti day to the outgoing month, opening the new one the following day.
Kartik runs 18 Oct – 16 Nov 2026 — a solar (Sankranti to Sankranti) month. Kali Puja and Jagaddhatri Puja. Timings are computed for Kolkata; the tithi and the month hold across India. Ritu: Autumn.

FAQ
Is the Bengali calendar solar or lunar?
Solar. Boishakh through Choitro are the Sun’s twelve sidereal signs, so each month begins at a Sankranti and runs 29 to 32 days. The tithi is printed for every day because pujas and vrats are counted by it.
What is the Bengal rule for the first day of a month?
The month begins on the day AFTER the Sankranti’s civil date, whatever the hour. That is why Poila Boishakh is 15 April 2026 although the Mesha Sankranti falls on 14 April, and why Falgun 1 is 14 February 2026 although that Sankranti falls before sunrise on 13 February.
Why does the Bengali month start a day after the Tamil one?
Because Tamil Nadu keeps the Sankranti day itself when the ingress is before sunset, while Bengal always defers to the next day. Same Sankranti, different classical day-assignment rule.
Why is no Bengali San year number shown?
The Bangabda is not something our engine computes, and this site never prints a number it cannot derive. The page shows Vikrama and Shaka — which it does compute — alongside the month names and Gregorian dates.
