How many years is Saturn “against” you?

Sade Sati is the seven-and-a-half-year period when Saturn crosses the signs around the natal Moon. We scanned the full 90-year span of 5,000 charts and added every period of Sade Sati, Dhaiya and Ashtama Shani. The total is substantial and nearly the same for everyone.

It’s Saturn’s clock, not personal

Saturn takes about 29.5 years to circle the zodiac and spends roughly 7.5 years in the Sade Sati zone around any Moon during each cycle. This occurs about three times in a long life, with Dhaiya and Ashtama Shani adding more. The total barely changes from chart to chart: it ranged only 38.1–43.9 years across the sample because it is set by Saturn’s orbit rather than a personal feature of the chart.

What this means

Nearly everyone spends a large share of life within one of these Saturn periods. Because the total is set mainly by Saturn’s orbit and differs little between charts, it should not be treated as a rare personal catastrophe. Check your own Saturn timeline to see when each period begins and ends.

Methodology

Synthetic study — no real user data. Birth moments are sampled uniformly across the date range and clock; birthplaces are sampled across major Indian cities weighted by population. Percentages are the mathematical base rate per birth moment, not a population census. Reproducible from the committed script with the fixed seed. Each chart's 90-year lifetime from birth is scanned at 15-day resolution for Saturn-from-Moon transits (Sade Sati, Dhaiya, Ashtama Shani).

FAQ

How many years of Sade Sati does a person get?

Across 5,000 simulated lifetimes, the average was 23.7 years of Sade Sati. This is typically 3.3 cycles of about 7.5 years each over a 90-year life.

Is Sade Sati a personal curse?

No. Saturn follows a fixed orbit of about 29.5 years, so the total duration is remarkably similar from person to person. It is a recurring cycle, not a personal punishment.

How much of life is a heavy-Saturn transit?

Adding Sade Sati, Dhaiya and Ashtama Shani, the average is 41 of 90 years — about 45.5% of a lifetime, and it varies only narrowly from person to person.
