Does a one-hour error rewrite your chart?
People often quote their Sun sign, but a Vedic chart depends on the ascendant: the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the exact minute of birth. It moves quickly. We recomputed 50,000 charts after shifting each birth time by 15, 30 and 60 minutes, then counted how often the rising sign changed.

The ascendant changes first
The rising sign changes roughly every two hours, so even a modest timing error can move it into the next sign. With a full one-hour shift, the rising sign changed in about half the charts. Because the ascendant determines which planet sits in each house, an incorrect time changes the entire house-based reading.
What a one-hour error can change
Not every part of the chart is equally sensitive. The Moon moves very little in an hour, so its sign and nakshatra usually remain stable. House-based verdicts such as Manglik change more often because they depend on Mars’s house relative to the ascendant.
Why your rising sign matters more than your Sun sign
The Sun stays in one sign for about a month, so everyone born during that period shares the same Sun sign. The ascendant changes roughly twelve times a day and makes the house layout specific to the birth time. That is why it is worth checking a birth certificate or hospital record for the most accurate time.

Methodology
Synthetic study — no real user data. Birth moments are sampled uniformly across the date range and clock; birthplaces are sampled across major Indian cities weighted by population. Percentages are the mathematical base rate per birth moment, not a population census. Reproducible from the committed script with the fixed seed. Each chart is recomputed at +15, +30 and +60 minutes; a Lagna change means the entire house-based chart shifts.

FAQ
How much does birth time affect a Vedic chart?
A lot. In 50,000 charts, a one-hour error changed the ascendant 50% of the time. Because the ascendant sets the house framework, the whole house-based chart changes with it.
Does a 15-minute error matter?
It can. A 15-minute error already moved the rising sign in 12.5% of charts. The closer your real birth time is, the more trustworthy the houses, dashas and yogas.
What if I don't know my exact birth time?
The Moon sign and nakshatra are far more stable (the Moon barely moves in an hour), so those stay reliable. The ascendant and house-based reading need an accurate time or a rectification.
