Marathi Calendar — Bhadrapad 2026
Maharashtra’s panchang, read from Mumbai on the Arabian Sea — far enough west that sunrise and every window derived from it run noticeably later than in the east. The year opens at Gudi Padwa, the Shukla Pratipada of Chaitra.
Bhadrapad runs 12 Sep – 10 Oct 2026 — the amanta (new moon to new moon) month. Timings are computed for Mumbai; the tithi and the month hold across India. Ritu: Monsoon.

For Mumbai, we derive Ekadashi, Pradosh, Sankashti, the full and new moon, any Sankranti and any eclipse from the sunrise-prevailing tithi.

FAQ
Which reckoning does the Marathi calendar use?
Amanta — new moon to new moon. Ashadhi and Kartiki Ekadashi, the two great Pandharpur pilgrimages, are counted in these amanta months.
Why does the month name differ from a North Indian panchang?
During the waning fortnight only. The purnimanta reckoning used in the Hindi belt names that fortnight after the next month, so Krishna paksha reads one month ahead there. The dates of festivals do not move.
When does the Marathi year begin?
At Gudi Padwa — Chaitra Shukla Pratipada, the first day of the first amanta month. That is also when the Shaka and Vikram Samvat years shown on this page roll over.
Why is Mumbai the reference city?
Because the sun-based windows — Rahu Kaal, Abhijit, the Choghadiya — are computed from local sunrise. Mumbai’s western longitude puts them measurably later than a Delhi-timed almanac would.
