Hindi Calendar — Jyeshtha 2026
The calendar of the Hindi belt — Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and the hills — read here from Ujjain, the classical reference meridian of Indian astronomy. Its months close at the full moon, so a Krishna-paksha day already carries the next month’s name.
Jyeshtha runs 16 Jun – 29 Jun 2026 — the purnimanta (full moon to full moon) month. Timings are computed for Ujjain; the tithi and the month hold across India. Ritu: Summer.

FAQ
Which reckoning does the Hindi calendar use?
Purnimanta — the lunar month runs full moon to full moon. The month changes on the day after Purnima, so the waning (Krishna) fortnight belongs to the month that ends at the next full moon.
Why is a festival date the same here as in the South, but the month name different?
The tithi is identical everywhere in India — it is an angle between the Sun and Moon, not a local reading. Only the month NAME differs: during Krishna paksha the purnimanta name runs one month ahead of the amanta one, so the same day is Krishna Ashtami of Shravan here and of Ashadha in Maharashtra.
Is this the same as the Vikram Samvat calendar?
Yes — the year number shown is Vikram Samvat, which rolls over at Chaitra Shukla Pratipada. Gujarat counts its Vikram year from Kartik instead, which is why a Gujarati calendar can show a different year number on the same day.
What is an Adhik Maas?
A leap lunar month, inserted when a lunar month contains no Sankranti. It carries the same name as the month it shadows, printed with the Adhika marker, and is shown here as a month of its own.
